Mike Munson to Perform Free Show at Elder Brewing

Fresh off his featured performance at the renown Montreal Jazz Festival, Minnesota recording artist Mike Munson is coming to Joliet, Illinois for a much anticipated show at Elder Brewing (218 E Cass St, Joliet, IL 60432) at 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 6. The performance, which is free to the public, is part of a tour supporting the 2021 release of Munson’s sixth full-length album, “Let Some Light In.” As a full-time musician for over a decade, Munson has established a following drawn to his unique fusion of American roots music blending slide guitar, finger-picked instrumentals, Americana and deep Mississippi blues. No Depression Magazine described Munson’s music as “artistry with an organic and primal passion” that “summons the specters of American music to both possess and exorcize the listener.” Elmore Magazine called Munson’s songs “haunting, stunning and riveting.” While the Midwest is home, the Mississippi Delta has been his training ground. With his fourth release, Rose Hill (2018), Munson traced the blues tradition to its birthplace, recording at the Blue Front Cafe in Bentonia, Mississippi on the Blue Front Records label. Studying under and performing alongside the Grammy nominated blues legend Jimmy “Duck” Holmes has informed Munson’s style and refined his craft. Holmes paid Munson the ultimate compliment from a blues musician by stating that Munson was “the real deal.” The remaining dates on Munson’s summer tour are available on his website http://www.mikemunson.net and include an opening set for the iconic Mavis Staples in Rochester, MN in late July.
